Sketch effect in a video

While surfing the web a long time ago I came across a tutorial to turn pics into sketches using photoshop. I found the tutorial in my favorites and wondered if I could do the same in AE. Using the photoshop tut as a base, I made some adjustments and varaitions to make my vid into a sketch. It makes for a cool effect.

Well my idea came from a photoshop tutorial, but the actual effect is done in AE.

There are so many sketch effect tuts for photoshop, but non for AE. But if ur smart u can figure it out! Wink

Technically there isn't a tutorial for AE, i'll explain it though. This best works with green screen after u keyed.

Sketch-effect:

1) Make a new comp and put a video in that u want the effect applied to
2) Now duplicate the video, then desaturate it.
3) Duplicate the desaturated layer and invert it
4) Set the inverted layer to Color Dodge
5) Do a gaussain blur on the inverted layer ( the amount depends you)
6) Merge the inverted and desaturated layer together.
Optional: If u want to have a bit of color, just set the combined layer in step #6 to luminousity. Play around with the modes.

lol why does your head go through the ceiling in the beginning?

Because the original video wasn't all green screen, so I had to mask out what wasn't green in order to key it well. It was just a test anyway...
